Beulah Church, Britannia, Bacup
Located at the junction of Rochdale Road and New Line at Britannia, this
Church was opened originally as Britannia United Methodist Church. It later
became known as Beulah Church and in the local census of Church attendances
taken on 29th January 1887 the Church boasted a total of 321 worshippers for
the afternoon and evening services.
A dwindling congregation meant that it was difficult to afford the
restoration work needed to enable the Church to survive, and it finally
closed for worship around the year 2000. The building is currently for sale,
although temporarily rented out to a local carpet manufacturer. Church
services still go on for the dedicated few, being held in the local
Britannia County Primary School.
It is located at Grid Ref: OS sheet 103 SD 882216.
